Stop Making Excuses and Start Making Money

There are two types of people in this world: those who make money and those who make excuses. You have to choose be either one. You can’t be both.

At the end of the day ask yourself this question, “What would I rather have more of? Money or Excuses?” Make up your mind to stop thinking about why you can’t do certain things or have certain things.

All I can tell you is that whatever excuses you think of, it’s all nonsense. Why? Because there are records of people that had the same obstacles you may be facing or the same challenges or the same handicap, yet they have gone on to greater things despite it all. Is that the type of person you would rather be remembered as? I know I would want to be.

It seems like 80-90% of the people we encounter are whiners, complainers, and often make excuses to justify things. No one really cares what your excuses are, they just want to know what you have accomplished or done with your life. And the only people we need to justify things to is ultimately the person we see staring back at us in the mirrorourselves. Can we really look ourselves in the eyes if we know that we didn’t give it our all? How can we justify being a quitter and failure with excuses?

Here are some of the common excuses people use for not pursuing their dreams:

- I don’t have the education or college degree.
- I didn’t come from a rich family.
- I don’t have the capital or the “It takes money to make money.”
- I don’t have the time to start a business.
- I lack the business connections.
- I can’t afford it right now.
- I have two jobs, and I can’t do this right now.
- I want more time with my family.
- I don’t think I can do this.
- I don’t have the skills and talents.
- I’m not good looking.
- I didn’t graduate at the top of my class.
- And the list goes on and on…

Do you forgo your goals and dreams because it is uncomfortable and requires doing things differently than what you’re used to? If it were easy and comfortable, don’t you think everyone would be rich? Of course it takes work and of course we have to change and do things different. Is it worth it to you to make the small sacrifices now to become financially independent and have the time freedom to do as you please?

Look at the alternative. You can work one or two jobs until you’re sixty-five. Then retire and wonder if your social security check is going to be enough to cover all your expenses. Imagine being 65 or 70 years old and worrying about money, paying the bills, and wondering how you’re going to afford going to the doctor, is that a gloomy picture or what?

It doesn’t have to be that way. There are options. More and more people are starting home based businesses and small businesses because they know that securing their financial future now is more important than ever. People are waking up and realizing that the world we live in is full of uncertainty.

–You see nature disasters on TV all the time.

–Economic changes that affect all of us such as rising gas prices.

–Corporate downsizing and layoffs means no job security for your family.

–Long commute time to and from work drains our energy.

–Childcare costs are eating a big chunk out of your paycheck.

–Rising healthcare costs makes it a disaster to ever have an illness in the family.

–Inflation will start to pick up soon.

–Rising interest rates will make your available disposal income smaller.

–Consumer are getting more and more into debt

Are you going to do something now before you’re forced to either by a job layoff or some other unforeseen event? Isn’t it better to prepare for the future by learn how to grow a business part time on the side?

I know it’s easier to just drift with the currents then going against the tide but we really don’t have a choice here. It’s easier to prepare now for the worse then to not know what to do if we had no job prospects and a mounting pile of bills.

To leave you with this thought, whatever time, effort, work, and resources you invest in yourself today with payoff for you in the future provided you invest in educating yourself and in the right endeavors. “As you sow, so shall you reap.” (Galatians 6:7-8) Don’t put off till tomorrow what you ought to be doing today. And stop making excuses and start making money.

Sheep Spend and Lose, Leaders Make Money

Remember that leaders spend more money on learning and growing, but they do their homework and work hard to make money.

Sheep follow the herd blindly with their wallets open hoping someone else will will do their work for them. Jumping into the newest multi-level marketing program will drain your wallet and your faith in humanity.

You’re checking out internet marketing? Great! Just be sure to market what you’re passionate about so you don’t bail off the ship at the first sign of crashing waves and high winds. There will be obstacles and the way to go through them is to be putting your time, energy and money into work you’re passionate about.

Be smart. Don’t join any program that hasn’t been around and proven itself. There are a lot of programs popping up that look like you can join and make a lot of money from the “spill factor.” It’s a myth. I’ve been on the receiving end of that one and saw many others there with me. I even created a lot of spill and saw it go away a few months later.

Yes, you can make money from getting “spill,” but the people who really benefit are the ones CREATING the spill. Not the receivers of the spill. Like everything in life, the fruits go to those who provide the labor.

Would you rather receive the benefits of being Bill Gates who created Microsoft or receive the benefits of getting welfare because you signed up for the program and chose not to work? (Which is the same as signing up for a multi-level program that you don’t do any work on building yourself). Forget the money, which one is more satisfying to your soul?

Nothing against these programs, as with everything, 20% of the people involved make 80% of the money. That’s true in every industry and yes, some people make a lot of money, but they work their butts off to get there. They deserve the money they EARN.

If you’re looking for a free ride, it ain’t gonna happen my friend. It takes commitment and a good work ethic to produce results no matter what you’re doing.

A big problem with these programs is that almost everyone who jumps in is hoping to pay some cash in the hopes of cashing out like they bought a lottery ticket.

Business opportunities aren’t lottery tickets. I know this flies against the lack of common sense used by the “biz op seeking herd of sheep,” but it’s the flat out truth. Do you know of ANY business that generated a lot of money without someone or many someone’s putting in hard work?

Why would you expect anything less from a home based business? It’s home based, but it’s still a business. It’s no less legitimate than a non-home-based business, the only difference is that you get a lot more money and freedom…once it’s built. You have to build it. It doesn’t build itself for you. And you have to do research on the business to make sure it’s not a scam before you put down your cash or give up your credit card number.

Can you make money while you sleep? Definitely. Do you have to put in work and build a foundation, a reputation and…a business first? Definitely. Can you buy into some new program, advertise it for a week or two to see how it does and make a lot of money? Definitely not. Tire kickers don’t make money with any business.

So what should you do? I invite you to look inside yourself, maybe look at what turned you on as a child and make money with something related to that. What did the acorn inside you do with all the free time you had as a child? Did you write, race, build, help others? Do what works for your soul.

I understand the pull to want to make money easily. I was pulled into that trap many times before I figured out that I had to do what felt more like play to me than work. Then I had to make a commitment to succeed and do everything possible to make it happen.

When you see a herd of sheep racing toward the “next big thing” exercise caution, slowly head in the other direction and don’t try it out until you’ve given it a year to prove that it’ll still be around. Otherwise your time, effort and money will have ran out to pasture with all the other sheep.

Instead, study leaders in the field you’re interested in, copy what works for them (using your own unique style), and build a foundation that will get you to the bank with the most money. As our friend the tortoise showed us in his race against the hare, slow and steady wins the race every time.

Make Extra Money - Six Unusual Ways

I was young and wanted some way to make extra money - something other than another fast food job. A friend of the family owned a small insurance agency. The owner decided to get into the business of process serving, and I applied for the job. Tracking people down and handing them their court subpoenas sounded like fun.

It was more interesting than most of the jobs I have had. I had to find two defendants in a lawsuit stemming from a school football injury (they worked for the school). Both had moved to the area, leaving no forwarding address. After using my best phone pretexts to get information from the family, and doing a little investigating locally, I found them both working in the same place.

I walked up to each, asked their name and handed them the papers. They were served. The problem was that the company was billing by the hour, and I had found these two quickly, meaning little profit. They dropped the idea for the new service, and dropped my job along with it. So much for getting ahead by doing a good job.

I had a wide variety of unusual jobs and other ways to make extra money when I was younger. Sitting here reminiscing at the keyboard might be considered an unusual way to make money too, but hey, it works. Here are some of the other ways.

Make Extra Money By…

Stealing cars: At twenty-one I was willing to try almost anything to make extra money. My brother’s towing business got a contract to repossess cars, and I became a “repo man.” Prowling the night with my brother, looking for and legally “stealing” cars - this was fun. Don’t expect to make too much money doing this though, unless you live in the right area. Oh, and it did involve getting chased, having a gun pulled on us, and other little adventures.

Making walking sticks: I sold hundreds of my own handmade walking stick alongside our other items at flea markets. I added handgrips made from recycled leather jackets, so they cost about 50 cents to make. I sold them for anywhere between $6 to $26. You may also want to make a hobby into a way to make money, but there isn’t too much money involved most of the time.

Financing other peoples plans. I put up the cash to buy cars for a couple friends. They knew cars, I had cash. A friend needed $3200 to buy and fix a corvette, for example, and two weeks later sold it for $4200, netting us $500 profit each. Letting your money do the work to make extra money - this is one of the best ways.

Rent rooms. At one point I had almost $10,000 per year coming in from renting the rooms in my home. I owed nothing on the home at this point, so this was a nice income. I had decent renters, and I had built a efficiency apartment on the back of the place for privacy for my wife and I. Easy ways like this are my favorite ways to make extra money.
